Do I need to take placement tests?

Placement Tests

Placement tests are required for most programs unless the applicant qualifies for a waiver.  CFCC will accept official copies of placement tests taken at other colleges (ASSET, COMPASS, ACCUPLACER). SAT scores (CFCC College Code 5094) directly from the College Board, or ACT scores (CFCC College Code 3185) are also accepted by CFCC. Official high school transcripts that post SAT or ACT results are also accepted. Students enrolling in programs that have placement testing requirements are required to have placement test scores on file prior to being accepted at CFCC.

Placement testing is offered year-round on a weekly basis on both the Wilmington Campus (downtown campus) and the North Campus. . Please read the Placement Testing Schedule for exact times and locations.  A fee is not required for taking the placement test(s).

When you come to our campus to take the placement tests, you will need a picture ID, your social security number, and knowing your program of study is required for taking the placement test. Personal calculators are not allowed. Online resources are available to prepare for the placement test.

The Placement Test Advising Guide describes the cut scores required for students to be exempt from taking developmental studies classes. The required parts of the placement test depend upon your program of study.
